One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. In 2015, I became one of them. “1 in 8” is about grief & fear, love & determination, gratitude & resilience. It’s about shame & anger, hope & humor, community & compassion, mortality & survival. I tell this tale to encourage, inspire, comfort, educate and, yes, to entertain. Creative expression helped me find my way through the fears, ravages and anxieties of cancer treatment. Jazz guitarist Mimi Fox, a sister-survivor, joined me in collaborating on these songs, crafting them into beautiful expressions of each song’s true meaning.
