Whether you believe in them or not, angels play a critical role in Western religion. Our session will explore the ‘ancestors’ of Biblical angels in Egypt, Mesopotamia and Canaan, then discover how Biblical writers transformed these concepts into cherubim, seraphim and all the other levels and functions of angels. From winged sphinxes to powerful archangels in early Judaism and Christianity, we’ll trace the evolution and emergence of the angels we know today.
